Three brilliant ways to spend Small Business Saturday

Small Business Saturday

The perfect antidote to Black Friday and Cyber Monday takes place this weekend and it looks set to be super lovely.

Prepare yourself for Small Business Saturday on December 7!

We’ve been genning up on what’s on and have put together suggestions for three brilliant ways to spend Small Business Saturday that offer the best local makers and sellers, the most festive vibe and fabulous food!

Old Spitalfields Market

1. HEAD TO OLD SPITALFIELDS MARKET where members of the East End Trades Guild will be selling their wares. They include Tatty Devine, Pylon Ceramics, Hopeful Traders, K:ss Creations and many more. (10am till 6pm). When you’ve shopped till you drop, pop into Sood Kitchen at Bottles and enjoy wonderful Italian food or check out the many street food stalls in the market.

Stoke Newington

2. STOKE NEWINGTON IS MAKING A WHOLE WEEKEND OF IT - starting with a Christmas Market in the Town Hall on Saturday and finishing with A Very Stokey Christmas on Sunday (11am till 5pm). There will be festive fun (including a snowball throwing contest, Santa’s grotto, Christmas trail with clues and prizes and lashings of mulled wine and mince pies to enjoy while you shop. Younger shoppers can hop aboard the fire engine. Head to The Last Crumb for the best pastries this side of the Channel!

3. THE RECENTLY OPENED ISLINGTON SQUARE will be holding a Christmas Market selling beautiful ceramics, leather goods and winter warmers. Two gorgeous restaurants are just a short hop from here; check out Little Bat Bar & Kitchen in Islington Park Street for a brilliant brunch or enjoy an Italian lunch at Terra Rossa on Upper Street.

This is the seventh annual Small Business Saturday – the event is supported by most local councils in the country.

Basil Fansa, founder of the Local Buyers Club, said: “Every weekend should be Small Business Saturday! But having a dedicated event where people are reminded of the benefits of shopping local is a big boost to independent traders.

“After all the hype around Black Friday, few things could be better than getting out into the community and enjoying the very genuine and warm welcome London’s smaller businesses have to offer.

“The ideals of Small Business Saturday chime well with our shop local movement – experiences are so much richer and more enjoyable when you choose indie over big chains!”
