7 Eco-friendly small business leading the way in North London

Lockdown has brought a rise in businesses with a strong environmental ethic which are willing to deliver (often by bike).

Did you know 90% of all packaging is thrown away after just one use and that only 9% of plastic waste is recycled?

Ask many shoppers what’s the barrier to living more sustainably and they’ll tell you “convenience.” Here in London the tide is turning as new companies emerge and older companies adapt to bring sustainable products to your door.

Here are 7 independent London companies with a big conscience

Circla

We love this Islington-based firm. They deliver refillable beauty products to your door, from soap and shampoo to scrubs and moisturisers. When you’ve emptied them – let them know, leave your empty bottles outside the door and they’ll bring a refill. Every order is delivered by bike or electric vehicle. They’re currently delivering to Zones 1 and 2.

Local Honeyman

This Walthamstow company is dedicated to reversing the decline of the honey bee. They have hundreds of hives (mainly here in London) and produce mainly raw, unpasteurised honey. Honeybees are essential for the planet's survival - without pollinating insects, many plants and crops wouldn't grow. In fact, the honey bee is the most prolific pollinator - responsible for around a third of all food crops.
