Organisers prepare for Inaugural Islington Festival of Music and Art
A four-day Festival of Music and Art is coming to Islington this summer – offering 15 events from chamber music to traditional jazz!
Organisers Joana Ly and Martin André were inspired to create the festival after the success of their smaller series of chamber music concerts in private gardens last year.
This year’s event takes place between the 22nd and 25th of July. There’ll be lunchtime concerts in the South Arcade of the recently restored Islington Square, evening concerts at Christ Church Highbury and late-night concerts (10pm-11pm) at The Newington Green Meeting House.

The Festival closes at The Old Queens Head. There will also be three workshops at The Meeting House – one for string players inspired by the world of Luthier and the other two drawing classes.
On the final day there’ll be an Art Market in the gardens of Christ Church where talented local artists and artisan can display their work.
Violinist Joana Ly said: “I am delighted that so many top-class musicians have enthusiastically agreed to come and play in this Festival, and to bring a smile to the residents of Islington and beyond”
Pianist and conductor Martin André added: “We have spent the winter working together with our amazing five partner venues to present 15 events (11 concerts, three workshops and an Art Market) of great diversity and quality, which will appeal to people of all ages, in a celebration of live music and art throughout the Borough, and which we hope will bring enormous pleasure and joy to everyone after the difficult past 12 months”.
The festival will feature the music of composer Franz Schubert, J.S Bach, Beethoven, Mahler, Haydn, Brahms and many more!
