Walthamstow’s new shop local club pledges support for food bank
The Local Buyers Club is expanding into Walthamstow and raising funds for a local food bank.
Our shop-local movement encourages people to support independent shops, restaurants, pubs, cafes and more. Members are rewarded for their local loyalty with savings and perks at hundreds of small businesses across the capital.
We've teamed up with a Walthamstow Food Bank (run by the Rukhsana Khan Foundation) and every new member who joins with the code E17FOOD will get the first year’s membership half price (£7.50 instead of £15) and £5 of it will go towards food for people in need. You can join the club by clicking here.
Among the East London businesses offering savings and perks to Local Buyers Club members are St J’s, Rhythm Kitchen, SpiceBox, Chickenish, Saw Chocolate, Greener Habits, Peeld, Papino Italian Street Food, Draught Drop, The Local Honey Man, DabbaDrop, Pillars Brewery, Honey & Thyme, Word Store, Victory London Distillery, Forest Wines, The East London Baby Co, Blackhorse Lane Ateliers, The Green Grill, The Keto Bakery, Mosaic Wines, Buns, Nel Ironing Service, ORA Brewery, Indulge Dining, Wood Street Coffee and Pastificio Carleschi.
Basil Fansa, co-founder of the Local Buyers Club, said: “Walthamstow is such an exciting scene – so many small businesses offer great quality and sustainable products and care passionately about the community. This year has been gruelling for so many independents and we’re determined to do all we can to help bring them new and loyal customers.
“We’re also acutely aware that thousands of people in the area are facing hardship. The Rukhsana Khan Foundation is doing amazing work – supporting more than 12,000 people. We’re strong believers in the kindness economy and have been giving back to the communities we serve since we launched three years ago, so hope to make a positive difference to this Walthamstow food bank."
The Local Buyers Club has a strong social conscience – we run one of London’s biggest winter toy appeals for children in poverty and last year our Trick or Eat Halloween event collected over 5 tonnes for an East London food bank.
When lockdown hit, the Local Buyers Club team launched My Virtual Neighbourhood – a London-wide directory of independent businesses, in a bid to help Londoners shop-local even from home.
