6 fabulous pubs at the heart of their communities
When we’re out and about choosing which business we’d like as part of the Local Buyers Club, we mostly think with our stomachs!
And conveniently, while following the trail of good food, we’ve stumbled across some wonderful local pubs and bagged brilliant discounts for members there.
North and East London is full of fabulous, historic pubs which play a huge role in community life. Our favourites include:
1. The Queens, Crouch End
This Victorian gastro pub is Crouch End’s finest – built in 1898 it’s steeped in history and has stunning art nouveau stained glass windows. It’s hugely popular and for good reason.

This sizeable pub is a focal point of Broadway Market and has been welcoming customers for 300 years. 4. The Red Lion, Stoke Newington
This place is under new ownership and they’re a lovely bunch. There’s been a Red Lion on Church Street since the 1800s and, with its village feel and horses and carts parked outside it looked drastically different! But the pub was rebuilt in 1924 due to street widening.
Today’s Red Lion serves awesome pizza and craft beers, plays big-screen sport and is open till 2am on Fridays and Saturdays.

5. The Horatia, Holloway Road

This Grade II Listed pub opened in 1860 and recently reverted back to its original name, having been The Daniel Defoe and then Stoke Newington Tea House.
